A second try for a shakedown sail went a bit better last Saturday, despite the oppressive heat. With the help of Annapolis Diving Contractors, a "healthy growth of barnacles" was removed from the prop mid-week making all the difference in the world in how Litha performed under power this time.
Full RPMs were achieved once more and gone were the billowing black clouds of smoke and overheat alarms as we motored out to raise the sails. The alarm did sound however after a prolonged period of puttering around awaiting a clear shot at the slip which will result in continuing attention when we take her back out next weekend. Knowing now how to silence the alarm was priceless.
Litha performed impressively well in light air making about 6 to 7 knots over ground with only 10 to 12 knots of breeze. All in all it was a great day on the water after a crab picking previous evening birthday celebration at Cantler's Riverside Inn with my favorite son and daughter. Saturday evening we enjoyed the annual marina party and enjoyed great food and time with the other slipholders.
