03/30/18 - Spring Preparations (Finally)

Litha is slowly making progress toward springtime and is now sporting her new home port lettering as well as a newly installed engine mounts, flywheel, Aquadrive transmission, and exhaust elbow.  The engine mounts and flywheel repairs were noted during the survey and the rest of the work made itself known as initial repairs necessitated their removal and closer inspection.

The Aquadrive transmission needed to be removed to align the engine on its new mounts and Bayshore Marine recommended we send it off for refurbishment given its removal.  Aquadrive determined a bad bearing and eventually recommended replacement given it would cost a little less than a rebuild.

The exhaust elbow needed to be removed to remove the transmission and its replacement here in Annapolis sounded much more attractive than trying to do it a few years from now in the islands. Having attended a couple of diesel engine seminars during the past several months, exhaust elbow corrosion seemed to be one of the main culprits to choking out engines at inopportune times and places.
